New footage has emerged today from the shambolic Willy Wonka-inspired event in Glasgow, which was so grim that police were called and the whole story has been making headline news all week. Here’s a reminder of some of the images we’ve seen already:

And, today, new footage of one of the actors playing a character that has nothing to do with Willy Wonka, terrifying all the children in attendance and leaving them in tears:

Absolute trauma for those poor kids.

Disgruntled parents, who forked out £35 a ticket, also said the Oompa Loompa station was more like a meth lab:

Actor Paul Connell, who was employed to play Willy Wonka, has since spoken out on the ‘red flags’ that he saw before the event even started, which included the fact he was selected to play Willy Wonka in the first place, and that he was instructed to learn 15 pages of nonsensical AI-generated script:

The organisers have since apologised for the event with director of House of Illuminati, Billy Coull, saying he was ‘truly and utterly sorry’ for the apparent shambles:

“I’m really shocked that the event had fallen short of the expectations of people on paper. My vision of the artistic rendition of a well known book didn’t come to fruition. For that I am absolutely truly and utterly sorry. There was every intention to hold the event, from the pictures, despite not being in the best light hopefully you’ll be able to see that there was every intention to hold the event.

Unfortunately there was unforeseen circumstances and the event didn’t come to light. These issues were technological in nature. We had ordered a holographic paper that didn’t arrive on time. The holographic technology in itself is absolutely fabulous technology and unfortunately there was a delay in postage.”

I’m not sure that ‘holographic paper’ would have been enough to save this event, but I guess we’ll have to take his word for it. The good news is that everyone who paid for a ticket has been offered a full refund, and so hopefully they’ll be able to look back on their Willy Wonka experience and laugh someday. Once the kids have all been through therapy and sufficiently recovered, that is.
