Look I’m in total agreement that US gun laws are insane and long overdue for reform, but it still makes me cringe my face off to see Katy Perry tearfully launch into a (blatantly-rehearsed) meltdown over the issue on American Idol the other night.

Again, I agree with everything she’s saying but it’s hard not to be cynical when celebrities have such strong emotional reactions in public, especially when they know they’re being filmed and broadcast to millions of people. Just seems like this was done more for attention rather than a sincere and genuine appeal to address the issue. Not to mention, she voted for a gun-loving Republican billionaire in the LA elections! Which doesn’t necessarily mean she’s anti abortion or pro guns, but still.
On the whole though, at least this brings more attention to the issue. Not that the issue hasn’t already been around for decades with no sign of improvement, but who knows, maybe Katy Perry having a classic American-style emotional meltdown on live TV is what the powers that be need to see to make those changes. Come on Joe Biden, do something!
