Season 4 of Stranger Things will forever be remembered for bringing back the Kate Bush banger ‘Running Up That Hill’ and shooting it straight to #1 on streaming services and music charts around the world.

Naturally, this has resulted in a nice little earner for Kate Bush, who has earned an estimated $2.3 million (£1.9 million) in streaming revenue since the track appeared in a scene on S4E1. She’s set to bank even more as this is only covering the period between May 27 and June 23. In fact the song is still #1 for the third week running in the UK charts.

Luckily for Kate, she still owns the copyright to her songs, so has pocketed the majority of the cash earned from its comeback, according to Music Business Worldwide. The track’s resurgence has also led to her breaking 3 Guinness World Records; Oldest female artist to reach Number One (63), Longest time for a track to reach Number One on the UK’s Official Singles Chart (37 years since its release), and Longest gap between Number Ones (her last was in 1978 with Wuthering Heights). Not too shabby.

Kate said on her website:

‘I just can’t believe it – No. 1 for the third week. We’re all so excited! In fact it’s all starting to feel a bit surreal.

I’d only seen the scenes that directly involved the use of the track and so I didn’t know how the story would evolve or build. I was so delighted that the Duffer Brothers wanted to use RUTH for Max’s totem but now having seen the whole of this last series, I feel deeply honoured that the song was chosen to become a part of their roller coaster journey.’

Placebo has an unreal cover of the song too, if you haven’t heard it:

Stranger Things fans aren’t stopping there – they’re now determined to get Eddie’s favourite song to the top of the charts too. Can we make it happen?
