When it comes to combat sports, there have been countless rivalries over the years where the two people involved 100% did not like each other and wanted to beat the shit out of each other in the ring, but that doesn’t normally extend to scrapping in the street in the outside world though. It’s not professional wrestling FFS.

Anyway, the script has been flipped when it comes to Jorge Masdival and Colby Covington who recently sought to settle their problems with one another in the UFC Octagon. Covington dominated Masdival and won by unanimous decision after five rounds, but it appears that Masdival wasn’t ready to accept that result.
He immediately called for a rematch, but as that doesn’t look like it’s going to happen any time soon, he’s instead decided to ambush Covington outside a Miami steak restaurant on Monday and sucker punch him a couple of times. In the docs, cops say Covington told them as he exited Papi Steak restaurant, Masvidal “ran up to him from his left, and without notice, punched him with a closed fist two times in the face.”
Cops in the report say Covington told them one punch landed on his mouth, while the other connected with his left eye.
According to the docs, cops say Covington heard Masvidal yell, “You shouldn’t have been talking about my kids”.
Wow. There’s a lot going on there but I think the biggest takeaway from this has to be that Masdival is a massive pussy? Yeah, it kinda sucks that Covington talked trash about his kids, but that’s exactly what people do before a big fight so that people buy it and everyone involved makes a lot of money. Why would Masdival get salty about that? He must have done it himself a bunch of times surely?
Jorge’s also lost a bunch of times and not decided to beat up any of his opponents when they’re out for dinner so it really is bizarre behaviour from the guy, especially as he might now end up getting arrested and maybe even face jail time. It’s well documented that the two really hate each other – they used to live and train together but fell out because Masdival accused Covington of not paying a coach the right amount, which Colby denies – but even so this seems like a major overreaction. We’ll keep you updated as this is one of the strangest things that has ever happened in combat sports.
