I remember watching Candyman when I was a little kid and being absoltuely scared shitless and even though I’m not sure of how it would stand up now but it looks like I won’t even have to rewatch it as Jordan Peele is kindly making a sequel for us all.

Peele announced the news via his Twitter account yesterday and followed it up with a statement confirming the fine details:

The original was a landmark film for black representation in the horror genre.

Alongside Night of the Living Dead, Candyman was a major inspiration for me as filmmaker — and to have a bold new talent like Nia at the helm of this project is truly exciting.

We are honoured to bring the next chapter in the Candyman canon to life and eager to provide new audiences with an entry point to Clive Barker’s legend.

I mean that is exciting. I know there was already a sequel to Candyman called ‘Farewell To The Flesh’ that wasn’t very good but it sounds like they’re taking this sequel seriously so hopefully these guys will be able to pull it off. Not sure if they’re gonna want Tony Todd to return given how old he is, but maybe it would be kinda cool if it was Candyman passing the baton onto someone new, like Jigsaw in the Saw movies?

Guess we’ll just have to wait and see and it will be a while – the movie isn’t scheduled to be released until 12th June, 2020. Farewell to the flesh I guess – until then check out the scariest horror movies according to science. Can’t argue with that.
