If you thought that Joey Barton was going to start taking it easy on Eni Aluko just because she’s suing him for ‘extreme upset and distress’, then think again because clearly this guy does not know when to back off.
Aluko claimed this week that football stadiums are ‘not safe for women’ and suggested that there is ‘daily casual racism, sexism and misogyny’ at the top of the sport:
‘I say it all the time. Men’s football in this country is still not a safe place for women. Whether you’re the wife of an average football fan who loves football or you’re me who works in professional broadcasting, it’s not a safe space. It’s not a safe space physically going to a stadium and it’s not a safe space on online.
So when we look at the next generation of young girls who are alive to football because of the Lionesses and who likely want to get into football, whether they play or work behind the scenes.
‘What would make them want to do that when there’s daily casual racism, sexism, misogyny toward the women at the top?
‘I just refuse to now to sit back and go “Oh, it’s part of the job,” I can’t do that anymore. For me, I’m talking to government, how are we going to create laws so that this is not so easy.’
Now I don’t know whether Eni Aluko is mistaking her own experience as a female pundit/celebrity who gets loads of abuse with the experiences of other women, most of whom safely attend football matches on a weekly basis, but of course Joey Barton had to get involved by kinda proving her point with this vicious Tweet sent out earlier today:
She’s what is called a useful idiot.
She’s just here to stir the race pot and try to play the victim.
Silly, little, wig wearing witch. 🧙 https://t.co/tKSP6etmzL

Silly, wig-wearing little witch? That’s borderline and Joey Barton knows it. Probably not a great idea when she’s already taking him to court for this sort of thing, but I guess he must be confident about the case if he’s continuing to talk about her publicly in this way on a massive platform. Still, couldn’t he have made his point without that last bit at the end?
The account he was Quote-Tweeting belongs to Paddy Kenny, a former goalkeeper who shared these ‘abusive messages’ that Eni Aluko sent to him after he had also criticised her punditry:
Seems the beef between Joey Barton and Eni Aluko is far from over.
Not only that, he’s also got a lawsuit from Jeremy Vine to contend with, after calling the presenter a ‘bike nonce’.
