It looks like Eni Aluko is dead set on punishing Joey Barton for the comments he’s made about her punditry, having now officially decided to go the legal route and sue him for causing her “extreme upset and distress.”
Joey Barton shared the above images on his social media, but quickly deleted them after (I’d assume) his own lawyers informed him that sharing this sort of thing online, essentially continuing his bullying/mockery of Eni Aluko, was ill-advised.
The letter reads: ‘Mr Barton. We have today delivered a letter of claim to you on behalf of our client, Eniola Aluko, by special delivery which is due to arrive by 1pm today. It relates to your ongoing conduct against our client and in particular your post of 19 January 2024 which made untrue, inaccurate and defamatory allegations about her and her family and has caused her extreme upset, distress and harm to her reputation’.
Barton also shared a picture of the letter that was sent to him by the same solicitors last week:
So it seems that Eni Aluko is keen to bury Barton for the comments he made about her and other female pundits who are commenting on men’s football. Barton has been intensely criticised in the last few weeks for claiming women ‘aren’t qualified’ to talk about football, and unsurprisingly, a lot of people agree with him, which has only caused more grief for Aluko and co.
Recently, Barton dug up ‘abusive’ DMs from the past that Eni Aluko had sent to former QPR goalkeeper Paddy Kenny. Not sure that makes it OK for him to give her the same treatment, much less publicly and repeatedly, but I guess that’s for the courts to decide now.
