I think it’s been fairly well documented that you can’t trust everything that you see online concerning the current Russian invasion of Ukraine – fake invasion videos/footage popping up everywhere seems to be the main problem – so you would have thought that someone like Joe Rogan – who has had so many people criticising him in the past for poor decisions – might have thought twice before posting stupid stuff like the meme below.

Rogan once again faced a backlash over the weekend as he decided to share a post about ‘Under Siege’ actor Steven Seagal joining up with front line Russian troops to help the invasion effort. The thing is, it isn’t exactly 100% unbelievable that this might have happened as Seagal was banned from Ukraine a few years ago because he was bro-ing down with Putin and said that he thought Russia’s annexation of Crimea from Ukraine was perfectly reasonable. It’s a bit much to think that he might actually join the Russian army though isn’t it?
Even if Seagal used to be one of the most deadly unarmed men in the world, Rogan just had to have a quick google or get Jamie to fact check the photo and would have found out that it wasn’t real as well. Instead, loads of dumb Americans probably now believe that Seagal is fighting for the Russian cause and this could potentially lead to them changing their opinions on the conflict after seeing their number on action hero on the frontline.
Therefore, a load of people were pretty scathing in their evaluation of Rogan’s actions:

Joe Rogan’s sharing fake information about Steven Seagal joining Russian special forces demonstrates his biggest problems—zero critical thinking skills and no understanding of when his jokes are appropriate.

Free speech is wonderful……. unless you’re an idiot with a wide reach. @joerogan has got to be more responsible. He’s in a position that so many more qualified people would kill for, and he takes that for granted.https://t.co/qWreqfIjSa

Part of the reason I stopped liking Joe Rogan is because he became too much of a boomer
Because like
How do you fall for the obviously photoshopped “Steven Seagal invades Russia” headline
and then share it to your 15m followers as if it’s a fact pic.twitter.com/inoHZLM8VG

Joe Rogan really shared a fake pic about Steven seagal or however you spell it smh like why do we give this man any time of day?

That’s the kind of hard hitting research we expect of @JoeRogan. When I saw that I was like “oh, I’d like it to be true and I hope Seagal ends up on the wrong side of a bayonet” but I immediately googled it and… lo. https://t.co/Kr1rbnmyRf

“I’d laugh, but my friends are dying,” said one person in response to Joe Rogan after the podcaster shared the fake news report about Steven Seagal fighting for Russia…. https://t.co/YreQ4xQLDT

Can’t really understand why people are so surprised or angry really – Joe Rogan has been doing this kind of stuff for years and to be fair to the guy had a pretty good defence recently when he was called out about it. He’ll do whatever he wants and isn’t ever going to change and I suppose we should respect him for it. It just really annoys me that he can be so irresponsible with his power and seemingly doesn’t realise how influential he can be about spreading dumb opinions.
UPDATE – Joe just took the post down and explained that it was satire, but obviously didn’t apologise. I guess that’s a start, although he did say he was ‘trying to be better’ a few weeks ago and then does something like this. Not really that clear whether he actually realised it was a joke to begin with either, but I suppose we’ll let him off like we always do.
