The murder of Jill Dando is one of the great unsolved mysteries in recent British history after Barry George was acquitted of the crime during a retrial in 2008, but now a rather out there theory about the culprit has emerged.

Over in France, 72 year old fashion mogul Gerald Marie – the former head of the Elite modelling agency – is under investigation for the rape and sexual assault of at least eleven women. One of these is Lisa Brinkworth, who claims that she was attacked by him in 1998 whilst she was working alongside investigative journalist Donal McIntyre to expose crimes in the fashion industry. This is going somewhere, I promise.
In documents that have been submitted to the Paris prosecutor, ex Elite executive Omar Harfouch refers to a conversation he heard Marie engaging in with a member of the Russian mafia, where he ordered him to ‘deal with a problem’. The documents then continue:

Shortly thereafter… a BBC journalist, Jill Dando, was shot dead in April 1999.
Indeed, these two journalists were in their thirties, were blonde with the same facial features, of the same height and of similar stature.
They lived close to each other and had people in common, including the husband of Jill Dando.
Ms Dando’s fiance Alan Farting was Ms Brinkworth’s doctor.
That’s a bit of a tenuous link really isn’t it? Although Brinkworth does sort of look like Dando in the picture below, but not really? They’ve got a pretty different hairstyle anyway, that’s for sure.

Anyway, it seems unlikely that they’re going to prove this twenty three years later based on some guy overhearing a conversation and then what essentially amounts to a bunch of coincidences, but wouldn’t it be great if this Marie guy cracked under the pressure and admitted that he was behind Dando’s murder, even if it was an accident? Absolutely love to see a case finally cracked years afterwards – I’m betting this probably doesn’t go anywhere though. Prove me wrong though Paris, prove me wrong.
