You would expect cosmetics mogul/YouTuber Jeffree Star to be one of the wokest people around, but apparently not when it comes to non-binary people, they/them pronouns, and gender identities beyond male and female.
Here’s what Jeffree had to say on a recent episode of Taylor Lewan’s Bussin With The Boys podcast:

“The ‘they’ and ‘them’, and all that extra s*** that we added during the pandemic because everyone was so bored in their f***ing houses.
They just started to make up more s*** and more stuff.
That’s why the conservatives like me, because I’m just real… you’re not ‘they’ and ‘them’, you’re trans, you’re male or you’re female.
People get so mad when I say that. How are you a ‘they’? What the f*** does that mean?
It’s stupid, is what it is. But you need someone like me that looks like me to say it. Because if you [Lewan] say it, it turns into you’re homophobic, you hate trans people, you hate gays, and it’s just how you feel.
You don’t hate anyone, you just think it’s stupid.”
Naturally, he’s being dragged all over the internet for his opinion, but I guess that doesn’t really matter much when you’re worth $200 million. The guy is pretty much cancel-proof! Still, it’s pretty surprising to hear him say this given the industries he’s in.
I do think he’s right that some people just don’t see the sense in the whole non-binary/create your own gender identity movement, and that it’s not necessarily hateful or bigoted to admit it doesn’t add up to you. One thing he’s definitely wrong about though is that this all exploded during the pandemic? Pretty sure we’d already written about several interesting seld-ID stories before then.
