Amid the economy collapsing and lives being turned upside down due to the pandemic, Jeff Bezos is expected to come out of it smelling like roses – and become the world’s first trillionaire.

As reported by the NY Post, the Amazon CEO – whose fortune is estimated at $143 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaire’s Index – could achieve this unprecedented feat by 2026, as worked out by business advice platform Comparisum.
This is in no small part thanks to the pandemic, which saw Amazon’s sales top $75 billion in the first quarter, thanks to quarantine keeping people at home and depending on delivery services.
Bezos, who owns an 11% stake in Amazon, has been the world’s richest person since 2017. He’s also one of the world’s five richest people who hasn’t lost money this year as a result of the pandemic, according to Esquire.
If his net worth does reach $1 trillion, he’d be worth more than the individual GDPs of 179 countries with a combined population of 3.4 billion — 43.7 percent of all humans alive. Holy f-cking shit.
Much of the discourse around this online has been that Jeff Bezos is evil and/or that no one person should have that much money, although I’m not too sure there’s anything Bezos could do with a trillion dollars that he couldn’t do with the billions he already has.
I mean it’s not like Jeff Bezos resembles one of the biggest supervillains of all time is it? Oh wait…
Gulp. I guess all we can do is hope and pray that he doesn’t go nuts or get any crazy ideas. If all that research is correct and Jeff Bezos becomes the world’s first trillionaire, he’ll have made more money than any person in the history of mankind. Would be pretty tough to not go on some insane power trip at that point. Although to be honest it’s not like things can get much worse than they are right now, so maybe we shouldn’t worry about it.
Anyway, just goes to show that even in the midst of a global pandemic, the rich get richer and the rest of us get poorer. But just as long as we don’t have to get off our couches to order something, that’s all good right?
