Jay Slater’s mum has asked that people continue donating to the GoFundMe for her son (currently sitting at £62,000) so that she can give her son “the send-off he deserves.”
Debbie Duncan posted the following update on the GoFundMe page thanking well-wishers for their support:
Hello everyone, thank you for all of your kindness, support and condolences in light of the tragic news that Jay’s body has been found. We are overwhelmed with grief and are so grateful for your support.
The wonderful team from The Netherlands, Signi Zoekhondon, have remained in Spain all week and have continued to support us since Jay was found. They are due to fly home in the coming days and we are so appreciative of their dedication and support.
We would like to thank LBT Global for their support during this impossible time. We are working with agencies to arrange Jay’s repatriation to the UK and the remaining funds, along with any future donations will be used to help with this if needed and to pay for Jay’s funeral costs back home. We want to give our boy the send-off he deserves so please do continue to share and support our fundraiser however you can.
Now obviously funerals are very expensive, but they’re not £60k expensive, are they? Sounds like it’s going to be a hell of a send-off for Jay Slater, especially as the donations continue to roll in.
I know the family have already spent some of the money on accommodation for friends and family and in assisting the rescue teams who were helping them out, but there’s still tens of thousands of pounds there that can guarantee a 5-star funeral, since I guess none of it will be going to charity or anything like that. Which is fair enough, really. If people are happy to continue to donate to the Jay Slater fund, then Debbie Duncan can spend the cash as she sees fit.
Come to think of it, with all the press around this case, I wouldn’t be surprised if funeral directors around the country offer to do it all for free! The local shop will donate the flowers, someone else will donate the cars etc. But I still respect the balls on Debbie Duncan talking about “future donations” rather than just thanking everyone for the donations already given. More power to her!
Jay Slater is believed to have accidentally fallen to his death while attempting an 11-hur trek back to his hotel through a dangerous ravine near the village of Masca in Tenerife. His pal Lucy Mae has also paid tribute to him in an emotional Instagram post.
