Absolutely wild claims by the mayor of Santiago del Teide in Tenerife today, as he claims that locals in his town have seen Jay Slater enjoying Euro 2024 football matches on the coast. Which I guess supports the theory that he could in a coma, if he’s been watching England play?
Spanish police have spoken to several people who said they have seen Jay Slater watching Euro 2024 matches after his last contact with friends; a phone call to Lucy Mae when his battery was on 1% during the 11-hour trek back to his accommodation.
Could Jay really have just wandered off to the nearby town of Santiago del Teide, where he’s been chilling with locals and enjoying the Euros ever since?
Police are examining grainy CCTV footage from the town, which is around three-and-a-half miles from Rural de Teno park – Jay Slater’s last known location – to determine whether it’s a possible sighting.
The image has been doing the rounds for some days now, but all we know is that it was captured around 10 hours after Jay’s phone last pinged.
Mayor Emilio Jose Navarro says:
“We know the police are investigating (the CCTV images). They have asked for the town hall’s security cameras and they are also working with the company that handles those cameras.”
Well, they better get a move on, because it’s now been 10 days since Jay Slater went missing and we don’t really seem any closer to finding him or understanding the circumstances around his disappearance. I’m guessing these ‘sightings’ of Jay watching the Euros with a bunch of locals are probably going to be taken with a grain of salt, given none of these people had the good sense to take a photo of the lad. Although I suppose anyone drinking at any bar or restaurant in Tenerife this summer should keep their eyes peeled during the football, just in case.
Who knows, maybe Jay Slater will miraculously turn up just as soon as England win the whole thing on July 14. That’s if they don’t postpone the Euros until Jay is found safe and sound…
Not a bad shout.
