Here’s a plot twist for the Council House Columbos on Facebook – search & rescue crews have managed to find a ‘disoriented’ 51-year-old British man in a ravine while hunting for Jay Slater in Tenerife.

Crews searching a desolate park close to where Jay Slater was last seen came across the Scottish hiker who got lost in the mountainous terrain. Police said the hiker had gone into a “difficult” area that is not “suitable for travel”.

Jay Slater who has been missing for more than a week

Police said in a social media post:

‘Locals observed how said hiker entered very early into an area of difficult access not suitable for travel and after several hours passed without him returning to the starting point, they alerted the agents who were at that time in the area. search for missing young man, Jay Slater.

“Tired and disoriented, he was located by the agents and the rescue team who helped him get out of the ravine.”

So, not the man they were looking for, but still a rescue nonetheless. Every cloud and all that.

I’m sure the Spanish authorities spoke to this man and asked whether he had stumbled across a dazed and confused 19-year-old on his travels through the terrain (maybe that’s why he was out there in the first place?). But as there’s still no breakthrough on the 9th day of the search for Jay Slater, I’m guessing he didn’t have anything useful for them.

This is probably why the Spaniards don’t want anyone else out there joining in the search party for Jay Slater, because it’s only going to end up with more clueless Brits wandering around Tenerife and getting lost in the middle of nowhere themselves. Imagine Brit after Brit going missing in Tenerife this summer and countless GoFundMe pages racking up £30k for each one of them?

Well anyway, here’s hoping the drones, sniffers dogs and helicopters have better luck today. We all want Jay Slater found ASAP not just for the sake of his friends and family, but also to end the insane conspiracy theorising around it all. Fingers crossed.
