One good thing about Elon buying twitter is that I will *FINALLY* leave and stop being a complete menace to society on here. So it’s win win for you all really. 😂

Jameela Jamil leaving Twitter? Oh the humanity! I’m not sure how the world is going to carry on without Jameela telling people to “do better” on Twitter tbh. She’s apparently serious about leaving this time too (after she hangs around a bit to check the replies to her Tweet and see what everyone thinks of her leaving, of course).
She’s not the only one who announced their departure from Twitter since Elon Musk officially bought the company for $44bn the other week:
Not hanging around for whatever Elon has planned. Bye.

Welp. It’s been fun Twitter. I’m out. See you on other platforms, peeps. Sorry, this one’s just not for me. ❤️🙏🏼

I’m shocked and appalled at some of the “free speech” I’ve seen on this platform since its acquisition. Hate speech under the veil of “free speech” is unacceptable; therefore I am choosing to stay off Twitter as it is no longer a safe space for myself, my sons and other POC.

Hey all –
I’m out of here. No judgement.
Let’s keep the faith.
Let’s protect our democracy.
Let’s try to be kinder.
Let’s try to save the planet.
Let’s try to be more generous.
Let’s look to find peace in the world.

Et tu, Mick Foley? There are more, but you get the idea. Obviously we’re not advocating for hate speech or whatever these celebrities claim to be upset about, it’s just that I don’t even think they know what they’re upset about. Twitter is literally exactly the same as it was one week ago. NOTHING has changed since Elon Musk took over. These attention-seeking celebs just think that being upset is the right/woke thing to do. Stephen King at least has a principled, specific position on why he’s threatening to leave:
$20 a month to keep my blue check? Fuck that, they should pay me. If that gets instituted, I’m gone like Enron.
— Stephen King (@StephenKing) October 31, 2022
Elon has since compromised on $8 a month, and apparently that’s final:
We need to pay the bills somehow! Twitter cannot rely entirely on advertisers. How about $8?
— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) November 1, 2022
To all complainers, please continue complaining, but it will cost $8
— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) November 2, 2022
Anyway, the point is that it’s just so cringey seeing these celebrities “quit” Twitter because everyone knows it’s just a PR exercise and they don’t even know what they’re pretending to be angry about. Even if they do end up quitting, which they won’t, you just know they’ve got a burner account handy to see if anyone’s still mentioning them on Twitter. Stunning and brave, indeed! Should be interesting to see what changes Elon actually makes to the platform in the coming weeks and months.
