Looks like Tommy Fury Vs Jake Paul is finally set to go down – for real this time – after Ariel Helwani Tweeted the following:
Jake Paul vs. Tommy Fury is a done deal for Feb. 25, per sources.
— Ariel Helwani (@arielhelwani) January 17, 2023
The pair were supposed to meet twice in the past now and Tommy Fury kept backing out, so you’d be forgiven for not getting your hopes up a third time. However, Ariel Helwani is the biggest combat sports journalist in the game right now, so if he says it’s a ‘done deal’, then it probably is.
Jake and Tommy first signed to meet back in December 2021 in Florida, but Fury pulled out after a mysterious illness/injury and so Tyron Woodley took his place and ended up getting KO’d. In August 2022, the pair signed to fight again in New York, but Tommy was apparently denied entry to the USA and was 15kg overweight anyway and so that didn’t pan out either.
After that, it looked like Jake Paul had given up on the fight happening altogether, but I guess he’s giving old Tommy one more shot. There’s no word on the venue just yet, but reports are saying Saudi Arabia or maybe even Manchester, which would give Tommy the hometown advantage, and he wouldn’t even have to get on a plane.
Still, if I’m any other boxer/retired MMA fighter, I’d probably start training now in case Tommy pulls out again and Jake needs an urgent replacement. Jake Paul Vs Nate Diaz? Now that would be great.
