Italy hasn’t had a monarchy since the end of World War II, when the King was essentially ‘fired’ by Italians for supporting Mussolini and enabling fascism and having Italy’s butt kicked all over Europe.

The House of Savoy was eventually allowed back into the country in 2002, but despite wielding no power whatsoever, still use titles like the ‘Prince Of Savoy’, the ‘King of Italy’, the ‘Duke of Aosta’ etc.

So they’re very much a ‘Royal Family’ in name alone, but that hasn’t stopped Prince Emanuele Filiberto of Savoy announcing that he plans to renounce his claim to the (metaphorical) throne to his 19-year-old influencer daughter, Princess Vittoria.

Vittoria is currently studying political science and art history in the U.K., and is also a model with 85,000 followers on Instagram. What better addition to that CV than ‘Queen of Italy’? Her dad explained the reasons behind his intentions to abdicate the throne so his teenage Instagram model daughter can become Queen:

‘We are in a world where there are a lot of changes, a lot of quick changes, and I really like the approach that today the younger generation can [take on] uncertain matters.

I will, with great pleasure, step down and let her take on the role, which I’m sure she will do better than me… It’s important that the younger generation have a chance to put new, modern ideas into practice.’

I just love the fact that this family has no influence or power whatsoever and are still going around acting like they rule the country. In any case, sounds like Prince Emanuele Filiberto wants to ‘modernise’ The House of Savoy by making his teenager influencer daughter the Queen. Hey, the British monarchy do sweet F all and they still get wall-to-wall coverage on everything they do, so why can’t the Italians? Fair play really.

Oh, just one more thing – Vittoria hates it when the media calls her an Instagram model. Whoops:

‘She always gets very cross when the newspapers call her ‘Influential Princess’ or ‘Instagram Star. She always says, ‘No, I’m studying political science and art.’ And it’s true that young people, young girls like to take pictures and things like that. She does some modeling and collaborations with brands. But … if you can use Instagram, TikTok, or whatever to bring awareness … it’s something beautiful. And why not? [Social media] is important today. It’s also a responsibility to have a large following because you can really connect with people.’

Well it’s too late for me to re-write this blog now. Hail to the future Queen Vittoria of Italy!
