I think that when it comes to internet browsers, nobody has really used Internet Explorer for a really, really long time because it completely sucks. Even back in the day i think I would always prefer to use Netscape Navigator, even before we were treated to Safari, Chrome and Firefox. It was just so slow and bad basically.

Anyway, I completely forgot about this but Microsoft have been moving away from Internet Explorer for a long time with the introduction of Microsoft Edge and have now decided to completely disable the desktop application tomorrow, June 15th. It will have been in service for 27 years, although it last received an update in 2013 so if you’re still using it then you’re definitely a boomer or a dinosaur. It’ll basically only affect people that are still running Windows 10 because Windows 11 comes with Microsoft Edge.
As you can imagine, people on Twitter couldn’t get enough of this announcement and busted out a whole bunch of jokes/memes about the impending death of the OG internet browser:

Internet Explorer is finally shutting down on June 15 after 27 years.
Seems it’s lagging a bit, I clicked “close” 26 years ago.

Truth is we all cheated on Internet Explorer to be with Google Chrome.
It deserved better.

I suppose that last guy does have a point? I don’t think I’ve thought about Internet Explorer in a long time – much less used it – but much like MSN I kinda figured that it would always be out there until the end of time and that some morons who never tried another browser would just be there using it forever. ‘I just like it OK?’, you know the kind of vibe I’m going for, a special subset of people out there.
MSN also shut down a few years ago – I was surprised it still existed then too – but it really does seem like the end of a chapter with Internet Explorer tapping out. Thanks for the memories and more importantly the memes and letting us download other browsers buddy.
