This has probably been coming for a while considering how many of your friends have been joining Instagram recently to upload pictures of their food and the rise of Instagram celebrities like Dan Bilzerian, but it was officially announced last week that Instagram is now a bigger app than Twitter with 300 million users as opposed to Twitter’s 284 million.

Oof. That’s gotta hurt the people over at Twitter because not only did they have a four year head start on Instagram, but the fact is that Instagram is also owned by Twitter’s great rival Facebook. Bummer for them, although their current projections and rate of growth do see them hitting 297 million users by the end of the year. Just think how many users Instagram will have by then though considering they’ve had 100 million join in the last nine months.

If you’ve got shares in Twitter, maybe get out now because they might be going the way of MySpace soon if they keep getting dominated like this.
