In a culture where looking anything less than ‘perfect’ can be seen as a complete disaster, one influencer over in Brazil booked herself into a private clinic for liposuction surgery on her knee (just the one).
Tragically, Luana Andrade, 29, passed away a day after her procedure in Sao Paulo, after suffering four cardiac arrests during the procedure.
Dr. Diovane Ruaro, plastic surgeon and president of the Brazilian College of Plastic Surgery told local media that Andrade had appeared to be in good health before the surgery.
The model and fashion designer’s cause of death has been listed as a pulmonary embolism – a sudden blockage in the blood vessels that send blood to your lungs, which usually happens when a blood clot in your leg breaks off and travels to your lungs.
São Luiz Hospital said: ‘The surgery was interrupted and the patient underwent tests that revealed massive thrombosis. She was transferred to the ICU where she underwent medication and hemodynamic treatment.’
Sadly, stories like this are becoming all too common in recent years, with influencers seeking ridiculously unnecessary surgeries in order to achieve a look that society has brainwashed them into believing they need to be beautiful. What’s crazy is that Luana’s surgery wasn’t even that extreme. I mean, I’ve never heard of knee liposuction before but you’d think it wasn’t too invasive or complicated. Just goes to show that no surgery is ever truly without its risks. RIP Luana.
