Ever since social media influencers started to exist, there’s always been this kind of weird genre where one of them helps out a guy in trouble or does something nicer for someone else so that they can get props and respect, but now it seems like people are cottoning onto their true intentions in performing these ‘random acts of kindness’ and it’s having the opposite effect on the influencer.

The perfect example of this is here with TikToker Amelia Graham who has gone viral on the platform for all the wrong reasons. She walked down to her local Sainsbury’s last week in an attempt to perform ‘an act of kindness’ with shoppers by randomly settling the bill for one of them, but none of them would let her and she ended up in tears because of this.

That was really stressful.

I was expecting the first person to be like, overjoyed and grateful and happy for me to pay for their shopping, but obviously that didn’t go down well… he was a little bit angry and I was taken back.

I’m gonna cry to be honest. Overwhelmed sense of emotion.

The second person I approached looked at me like I was an absolute idiot, weirdo and the third person told me she didn’t deserve it.

I feel like I’m really overwhelmed right now.

Lol I shouldn’t really laugh because it looks like she is having a really upsetting time of it, but it’s just so funny how everyone she asked  didn’t care at all about her offer and thought she was a weirdo and her face gets more and more miffed and embarrassed throughout the video. Someone in the comments pointed out that she should probably do try this in a more disadvantaged area for the results she wants, as offering it out in Balham – where houses cost at least a million pound a pop – probably isn’t going to go down so well. Good idea if she wants to do it again I suppose.

Fair play to her for posting it though even if it didn’t go down exactly how she wanted. It does really highlight again how influencers posting their charity work online for clout probably isn’t the best way of going about actually making a difference. Do it with the cameras off to people that actually need the money and you might be more successful. Just another idea.
