New women’s-only gym ‘The Girls Spot’ is facing backlash this week after the owner confirmed that the single-sex space will be exclusively for biological women, and not trans inclusive.
Natalee Barnett AKA Natalee B Fitness, a 25-year-old fitness influencer from the UK, has been updating her hundreds of thousands of followers for years about her plan to open her own gym. Now that she’s finally opening a venue in London called ‘The Girls Spot’, the inevitable controversies have begun.
Most of the critics are pointing out that Natalee had originally said in 2019 that trans women would be welcome at her women’s-only gym once it opened, but she’s explained in a video this week why she had a change of heart on the matter:

Well, that seems fair enough really. After all – her gym, her rules. Unfortunately, Natalee had to issue another statement over the backlash because too many crybabies online insist she’s being discriminatory and transphobic and all the rest of it, when really she just wants to guarantee the safety of biological women like herself in a gym environment:

Natalee has even had the gym windows tinted and frosted so nobody can perv from the outside whilst the girlies train at The Girls Spot gym, which is a smart touch.
There is an argument being made that transgender gym-goers may have contributed to the GoFundMe that funded The Girls Spot, back before Natalee clarified that it wouldn’t be trans-inclusive. If that’s the case, then maybe she can return those payments. However, I don’t see how anyone can be mad at her for realising this vision for a gym where one specific demographic can feel safe from sexual harassment, assault and violence.
I mean, imagine if the gym opened as trans inclusive and there was just one solitary incident involving a trans woman and a biological woman (as rare as these incidents may be); it would kill the business and its USP immediately!
Fair play to Natalee for sticking to her guns on this one, and I wouldn’t really worry about it too much anyway because online outrage rarely translates into the real world. Register your interest in The Girls Spot here.
