Imagine having tens of millions of streams on multiple songs and being heralded as a ‘massive talent’ by the BBC, only to throw it all away by trying to shoot someone over some random nonsense? Welcome to the life of UK rapper DigDat AKA 25-year-old Nathan Tokosi.
On Spotify alone, DigDat’s top 5 tracks have a combined total of 215,000,000 streams, indicating the south-east Londoner had well and truly made it. Unfortunately for him, he’s just been found guilty of attempted murder over a drive-by shooting in west London.
Totally worth it for this hard-as-nails mug shot he can stick on his rap CV, that’s for sure:
As reported by the BBC – the same BBC that was hyping him up as one of the most exciting prospects of the UK rap scene not long ago – DigDat was riding around in a stolen Audi from which at least six shots were fired at a man in another car in Notting Hill on 20 November 2023.
Shots hit Daniel Offei-Ntow, 27, in the head, mouth and body and he was “lucky not to die.”
Not only was the shooting captured on CCTV, but DigDat’s DNA was also found on the headrest of a rear seat in the Audi.
Aside from from the attempted murder charge, he was also found guilty of possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life and possessing ammunition with intent to endanger life.
Very bleak indeed. It turns out that DigDat had already been jailed in 2013 at the age of 13 for stabbing a man multiple times in an attack in Lewisham, south-east London. He was sentenced to 10 years in a young offenders’ institution but was released early in 2018. So it’s safe to say that absolutely no lessons were learned from that experience, because even with an exciting music career ahead of him, this donut still managed to involve himself the same shenanigans and is now heading right back to prison where he started.
Reckon he’ll get another early release? We’ll have to wait and see.
Earlier this year, the BBC came under fire for promoting another upstanding member of society – the masked drill rapper who killed Jeremy Mizen in 2008.
