I think everyone is aware that wrestling is fake in terms of the fact that it’s just a glorified soap opera, but we still have to realise that these guys are highly trained athletes that put their bodies through hell and often have to pay the price for their art.

Sadly, this has been confirmed yet again with the latest news on one of the biggest legends in pro wrestling history, Hulk Hogan. Kurt Angle was talking on his podcast when he dropped the news, revealing that he had been hanging out with the Hulkster backstage at the recent RAW 30th anniversary event:
I did speak to Hulk Hogan for a bit of time for about a half hour and I also spoke to Undertaker for about a half hour.
Those two guys are the two guys that I wanted to catch up with when I went there, so I was very happy to be able to do that.
Hogan had his back surgery again. He had the nerves cut from his lower body. He can’t feel his lower body, so he has to use his cane to walk around.
I thought he was using the cane because he has pain in his back. He doesn’t have any pain. He has nothing at all. He can’t feel anything.
So now he can’t feel his legs, so he has to walk with a cane. That’s pretty serious, man. I mean, I really feel for Hogan. He put his heart and soul into the business and it ate him up.
That’s kinda heartbreaking to hear after he put so much of his life into making everyone buzz by doing that big leg drop of his over and over again, but I suppose he can’t really be that surprised given that he’s pushing seventy and was punishing his body for a good proportion of his life. Considering how many wrestlers die young in deeply tragic and bizarre circumstances, maybe he should be happy he’s even made it this far.
It also probably explains why in the clip above from the 30th anniversary show Hulk only showed up for a couple of minutes and didn’t make it off the top of the entrance ramp. I figured that was just because they didn’t want to make the show about him but now realise it was probably because the guy was literally using all his energy just to walk around and stand up for that long without the cane. Sad.
For more of the same, remember when Hulk fought The Rock at Wrestlemania 18? What a moment.
