Now the food traditionally associated with Italy was introduced – pasta alongside aubergine, tomato, cheese and mint. To say that the Italians know how to do pasta would be an understatement, and I was so eager to consume it that I forgot to take a picture before I started eating it, as you can see from above. It didn’t disappoint.
Next was my most eagerly awaited course – a pork fillet in a hazelnut crust. Although this was slightly harder to cut up then I envisaged, the meat was succulent and tender and the hazelnut crust really complimented it. A definite winner and probably my favourite dish of the night.
The dessert was a close second though. It was described as almond milk with a passionfruit centre and I was surprised when what appeared to be an egg came out from the kitchen. Never fear – you turn it upside down and dip the brioche pain into the almond milk that was located inside the egg shell, much like you were eating an egg and soldiers. Genius, and the passion fruit centre was probably the best thing I tasted all evening.
There were also a couple of Peroni Nastro Azzurro cocktails that were served during the meal alongside various dishes. I’ve never really thought about using Peroni Nastro Azzurro or any kind of beer in a cocktail, but these guys somehow made it work twice to create some tasty drinks that really did accentuate the flavours featured in the meal. There are more available at the various bars in the venue too.
After the meal had finished, Craparo himself again emerged from the kitchen and conversed personally with each of the diners, eager to find out what they had enjoyed about the meal. Again, getting to talk to the man who had designed the food and menu was another great touch and added a degree of intimacy to an already excellent meal.
If you were still doing Brap Or Crap restaurant reviews on the site, then the House Of Peroni would definitely get next level. The venue itself is spectacular and the food is the quality you would expect from someone with a Michelin star. Even if you don’t fancy the food, it’s worth having a drink there to soak up the luscious atmosphere and sample one of their unique cocktails. Highly recommended.
