It seems like a long, long time ago that anyone was actually interested in new episodes of ‘The Simpsons’, but I guess someone somewhere is still watching them because Matt Groening and the gang are still making them and every now and then you get a story like this about them desperately trying to remain relevant.

In fairness, ‘The Simpsons’ tackling cancel culture might sound like something I would be interested in twenty years ago, so it makes sense that it’s something that they would try to satirise these days. ‘South Park’ has almost certainly already done it way better though.
Anyway, it also makes perfect sense that they would bring in a ‘right wing podcast host’ called Theo who is clearly based on Rogan to help the characters deal with this problem too. Here’s the official synopsis of the episode:
A series of unfortunate events make it look like Homer intentionally shut Santa’s Little Helper in the car on a hot day, then get worse when he accidentally knocks Reverend Lovejoy out of the church window.
Videos of the incidents go viral online and the world turns o
n Homer, only for a mysterious man named Theo to approach him with a radical offer to repair Homer’s reputation.
Turns out that ‘Theo’ is the only person that believes Homer and allows him to tell his side of the story on his podcast. Not sure what happens after that and don’t really care to be honest, but most of the reviews I’ve read of the episode so far say that it ‘didn’t really contribute anything to the debate’ and ‘didn’t really have anything to say’. Seems like a pretty apt description of ‘The Simpsons’ these days hey? How the mighty fall.
For more of the same, check out when ‘The Simpsons’ rinsed Morrisey a couple of years ago. That was actually pretty funny.
