Hollywood Producer Says Sydney Sweeney Is ‘Not Pretty’ And ‘Can’t Act’

I don’t think anyone has ever accused Sydney Sweeney of being the Meryl Streep or Audrey Hepburn of our generation, but she’s an OK actress who does what’s required of her on screen. Of course, she does have the ‘best t1ts in Hollywood‘, and those have probably played some part in her becoming one of the biggest film & TV stars of the modern era.

Well, one Hollywood producer who can’t wrap her brain around Sydney Sweeney’s success is Carol Baum, whose films include ‘Father of the Bride’ and ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’. Carol really laid into Sydney Sweeney when speaking with NY Times film critic Janet Maslin before an audience of fans in New York this week.

She said:

There’s an actress who everybody loves now – Sydney Sweeney.

‘I don’t get Sydney Sweeney. I was watching on the plane Sydney Sweeney’s movie [‘Anyone But You’] because I wanted to watch it’

‘I watched this unwatchable movie- sorry to people who love this movie – [this] romantic comedy where they hate each other.’

Referencing the producing class she teaches at the USC School of Cinematic Arts, Baum added:

‘I said to my class, “Explain this girl to me. She’s not pretty, she can’t act. Why is she so hot?”

Oof. Just goes to show, there’s a teenage mean girl in all of us, even successful Hollywood movie executives in their 70s who should know better.

Was ‘Anyone But You’ even that bad? It was the classic ‘total opposites who are wrong for each other but fall in love anyway’ romcom trope, and Sydney Sweeney was fine in it. Why is this Carol Baum lady expecting a Jodie Foster-level performance in a romcom? Why is a successful female movie producer who’s been in the game for 40+ years shaming Sydney Sweeney over her physical appearance? Isn’t Hollywood meant to have evolved past that, after #MeToo and everything else?

Sounds like Carol Baum is just a big, jealous hater if you ask me. I for one refuse to join Carol in putting Sydney Sweeney down because she’s ‘not pretty’ and ‘can’t act’. I will continue to look past her ugly exterior, and focus instead on the beauty she has within. Shame on you, Carol Baum. Do better…
