2) David Cameron Will Send You A Text
Okay, well not Cameron personally. But you will get a text from the government.
Up until the early 90s, in the event of nuclear war, the government would set off a siren across the country four minutes prior to the tragedy. This was intended as a warning that a bomb was about to hit,in the hope that it would at least give people chance to get inside before the nuclear warhead stuck. However, the system was retired in 1992 – one of the reasons being that most people now have double glazing.
Nowadays you would probably receive an SMS directly to your phone. What a time to be alive, eh? (or dead, as the case may be).
The system, drawn up by the National Security Council and tested in Glasgow and Yorkshire in 2013, is supposedly in place for immediate roll-out in the event of major national tragedies, such as nuclear war.
