Stringer Bell will always be Idris Elba’s most iconic role, but detective John Luther isn’t far off – and the movie revolving around that character that fans have been waiting for for almost four years is finally just around the corner.

Released in selected cinemas on February 24th and then coming to Netflix on March 10th, ‘Luther: Fallen Sun’ will pick up where series five of the detective drama left off with Luther behind bars. That won’t be the situation for long though as he resolves to break himself out in order to catch a gruesome serial killer that’s terrorising London and also personally taunting him. These criminals just love having a go at John Luther don’t they?
Here’s the first look at the movie:
In Luther: The Fallen Sun – an epic continuation of the award-winning television saga reimagined for film – a gruesome serial killer is terrorising London while brilliant but disgraced detective John Luther (Idris Elba) sits behind bars.
Haunted by his failure to capture the cyber psychopath who now taunts him, Luther decides to break out of prison to finish the job by any means necessary.
Well that trailer isn’t giving much away at all there is it?
However, the plot synopsis sounds pretty ‘movie of the week’ so I’m hoping that they’re able to pull something out of the bag with it and make it a worthwhile experience. I always found Luther’s relationship with Alice Morgan by far and away the most interesting part of the show, but there’s been no confirmation as to whether Ruth Wilson will be returning for the movie after a somewhat ambiguous ending to her character at the end of the last series. Fingers crossed.
