The Guardian has managed to get a sneak peek of Prince Harry’s book ‘Spare’ ahead of its release on January 10, and they’ve shared a passage where Harry accuses William of beating him up during an argument about Meghan Markle.
Describing the incident at his London home in 2019, Harry says William called Meghan ‘difficult’, ‘rude’ and ‘abrasive’, to which Harry responded that he was ‘parroting the press narrative’.
Harry writes that William turned up at Nottingham Cottage – where Harry was living at the time, in the grounds of Kensington Palace – and wanted to discuss the Meghan situation. Harry says William was already ‘piping hot’ when he arrived, and the two soon ended up shouting over each other.
Insults were exchanged, before William claimed he was trying to help.
Harry said: ‘Are you serious? Help me? Sorry – is that what you call this? Helping me?’
That comment, Harry says, infuriated his brother, who swore while stepping towards him. Now scared, Harry writes, he went to the kitchen, with furious William following him.
Harry writes that he gave his brother a glass of water and said: ‘Willy, I can’t speak to you when you’re like this.’
He writes:
‘He set down the water, called me another name, then came at me. It all happened so fast. So very fast. He grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and he knocked me to the floor. I landed on the dog’s bowl, which cracked under my back, the pieces cutting into me. I lay there for a moment, dazed, then got to my feet and told him to get out.’
Harry writes that William urged him to hit back, but Harry refused. William left, then returned ‘looking regretful, and apologised’.
When William left again, his brother writes, he turned and called back:
‘You don’t need to tell Meg about this.’
‘You mean that you attacked me?’
‘I didn’t attack you, Harold.’
Harry says he didn’t immediately tell Meghan – but did call his therapist. Of course.
When Meghan later noticed ‘scrapes and bruises’ on his back, he told her about the attack. Harry says she ‘wasn’t that surprised, and wasn’t all that angry’.
‘She was terribly sad.’
What can you say really? This isn’t going to do Harry any favours as far as everyone thinking he’s a pxssy, especially the part where he says William ‘ripped my necklace’ and that he landed in the dog bowl when Wills threw him to the floor. Not to mention calling his therapist immediately after to have a cry about it. Meanwhile he makes out like he was a total pacifist throughout the incident, while Will was in full-on tyrannical older brother mode. Well it’s not like Harry would ever be anything but a victim, right?
Anyway, I think we’ve got more chance of Liam and Noel Gallagher making up at this point than William and Harry ever being on good terms again. No doubt there’ll be more scandalous stories leaking from ‘Spare’ in the run-up to its release next Tuesday. Royal family on red alert!
