The Battle Of The Bulge

On a standard day when the earth is whizzing round at its normal speed, there is an 8 km tall bulge in the oceans around the equator. This watery bulge is predominantly due to the centrifugal effect of earth’s rotation. If the earth stopped, that bulge would disappear. Not a problem you might think, but wait. Where is that bulge of water going to go? I’ll tell you where: everywhere. Our new non-spinning home would face the tsunami to end all tsunamis.
An almighty peak of ocean would migrate away from the equator to form two giant oceans, one at each pole. Us Brits would be under a lot of water I’m afraid. They reckon it would look something like this. Quite the makeover:
Basically, you won’t have survived that. But if you did. And you defo wouldn’t, but if you did, you’re still screwed…
