One hotel employee interviewed by The Standard said: “I went up to the seventh floor after receiving a call. I heard aggressive shouting. I opened the door and saw blood everywhere. I closed the door immediately. Police were called and they were there within three minutes”.
Police say there were no signs of a forced entry and that they’re keeping their minds open in regards to a possible motive whilst trawling through CCTV footage. The women were part of a large group of wealthy UAE tourists. It could have just been a case of straight forward random burglary, or they could have been spotted earlier in the day and specifically targeted because they looked loaded.
I expect the security guys on duty at the hotel will have some pretty stiff questions to answer. And who carries a hammer as a weapon? Yeah it works, but a knife is so much more effective, and easier to carry. In my opinion (which is basically worthless) this is not a straight forward case of burglary. I think the perpetrator had some kind of inside knowledge, which is how he managed to get to the 7th floor of a high-class hotel without being stopped. I also reckon his intention was to injure the women as some kind of punishment rather than steal their stuff.
Only time will tell I guess.
