There’s a whole subsection of this website dedicated to stuff that has been found stuck up people’s asses, but I don’t think we’ve ever had anything as rancid as what we’re discussing in this article where a cockroach was found living in a patient’s vagina. Gives me the shudders just typing that.

We’re over in the Honduran capital of Tegucigalpa for this one, where gynaecologist Dr Marco Cálix decided to share the story of a woman coming to visit him from a rural part of the country. Here’s what he had to say:

The woman arrived at my practice extremely restless, agitated, and sweaty.

She said she had a rough night trying to sleep due to something extremely strange in my vagina.

She said she had something unusual in her vagina.

When I introduced the speculum, I could see that it was an insect.

In fact, I had to take out something like a cockroach.

The animal was dead, but it’s unknown how it got there.

We can laugh about it now, but at the time I was very worried as I had never encountered anything like it before.

Sometimes we find condoms or broken sex toys during vaginal examinations, but a dead cockroach is another level entirely.

Well yeah no shxt Sherlock, I guess that’s why it’s making international news. It’s completely unprecedented I think?

Anyway, you obviously have to wonder how this cockroach ended up in her vagina though don’t you? I guess we’re all assuming that it sort of crawled up there when she was asleep because she’s from a ‘rural area’ but what if there was something a bit more freaky afoot? Could be anything from weird sexual fetishes to voodoo magic over there, right? Doesn’t really bear thinking about. Gives me the ick.
