Smoking weed is both an art and an instinct. For some it comes naturally; for others it has to be learnt. But once you nail it, boy you’re going to love it. Not that I’d know. Weed is illegal in the UK kids. Don’t do it or you’ll probably die or whatever it is they’re telling us nowadays.

Luckily for those of you out there who struggle with blazing up; or those who have simply never done so before, there’s now a class to teach you the ins and outs of rolling and consuming your first joint.

After recently being legalised in the US capital, (Washington DC in case you didn’t know) people have inevitably been experimenting with ways to make money from their favourite past-time. And one entrepreneur reckons he’s cracked it with this one.

Ryan, best known as the founder of the D.C. School of Mary Jane, and based in Columbia Heights, says his dream is to educate the uneducated would-be stoners out there and to rid the world of the ‘decades upon decades of misinformation and stigma tied to marijuana’.

He went on to explain how his own experiences with marijuana led him on a journey of self-discovery. Now he wants to share his new-found knowledge with his students:

When I started using marijuana recreationally about six or seven years ago, I didn’t know what I was putting in my body.

It took years of traveling the country and abroad, years of experimentation, some of it costly, and not all of it pleasant.

I want to make a shortcut for people that I didn’t have and sidestep the mistakes that they may make, the unpleasant trips and the misinformation.

The class is to say, this is what’s going on. This is what you’re putting into your body. This is what it’s doing, and that this is a safe recreational drug to use.

There are some catches though, in case you thought this was just an opportunity to get a free smoke-sesh.

Firstly, all participants must be over the age of 21, and living in Washington D.C. obviously, unless you’re willing to travel there. Secondly, you’ll have to have a spare $100, because that’s how much Ryan is charging. And thirdly, you’ll have to bring you’re own green because he’s not providing any.

So what do you get for your hundred dollars then? Well, Ryan or another instructor will come to your D.C. residence with a pipe and a presentation. You can bring three friends along with you and during the lesson, he’ll tell you exactly how to get your kush on. Be it smoking, eating or vaping. He’ll also give you a few pointers on acquiring the drug. Great.

Honestly, this sounds like a bit of a rip-off to me, but things seem to be going well for the school:

The reception has been great. We’re still young, but we’ve demoed a couple of classes so far. People are just interested. My inbox is swamped every day with questions.

At least I know that if writing doesn’t work out, I can move to the US and impart my wisdom through other means… if I’d ever smoked the stuff obviously, which I definitely have not.

These guys have though, and they’re about as knowledgable as you could ever hope to be on the subject.
