A 19 year old Mormon missionary named Mason Wells has bizarrely been present at the Boston, Paris and Brussels bombings and managed to survive all three of them, making him a combination of the luckiest and unluckiest man alive.
In Boston, he was a block away from the finish line when the bomb went off waiting for his mother to finish the marathon, and was also in Paris last November. Yesterday he was in Zaventem Airport too, and managed to escape the blast with a ruptured Achilles tendon and first and second degree burns on his hands and face after being hit with shrapnel from the blast.
He was with two other missionaries at the time, including 20 year old Joseph Empey. Both managed to also survive the attacks with second degree burns to the face and hands.
Wells’s father Chad said the following:

This is his third terrorist attack. This is the third time that sadly in our society that we have a connection to a bomb blast.
We live in a dangerous world and not everyone is kind and loving.
Despite being on the ground and bleeding he actually had a sense of humor and remained calm through the situation. That’s our Mason.
I think the Boston experience helped him to stay calm.
The way we get back on our feet after something like this happens is a true test of character.
We see this as a blessing. Not a terrible curse.
Well that’s one way to look at it, but I think if I was a mormon in the same travelling group as Mason I would be looking over my shoulder at all times now as he seems to attract terrorism wherever he goes.
Mason’s currently in a Belgian hospital and is expected to make a full recovery. Let’s hope that this is his last brush with such events because nobody should have to go through that even once in their lives, let alone three times.
Is he as lucky as this guy who almost got decapitated by a flying rock though?
