Competitive eating really seems to be kicking off in this country after obviously being restricted thanks to the covid pandemic over the last couple of years, with the British Eating League launching their new season at the The George Pub and Grill in Stockton-on-Tees, County Durham over the weekend.

The first event featured a whole host of competitive eaters trying to scoff down as many Jaffa Cakes as possible within a three minute time limit. 35 year old Max Stanford – also known as Max Vs Food – emerged as the winner, managing to cram 102 of the snacks into his mouth during that quite frankly ludicrously small window of time.

This achievement is put into even more context when you learn that second place Food And The Beast only got through 68 and third place Kyle Vs Food only 64. Pretty pathetic when compared to the master – who apparently had room for some more as well.

Here’s what he had to say about his achievement:

It went very, very well, I surprised myself. I beat my record from last year of 88.

It wasn’t too bad eating that many. My tactic was eating and then using a lot of water and getting into a rhythm.

Live events are so much better. I did a lot better because of that, with people cheering and you get to see the other competitors as well.

I really do like Jaffa Cakes. I’ve got some leftover that I’ll have with a cup of tea later.

Wow. What a hero. Can’t wait to bring you more stories from the British Eating League as and when they emerge this year as the season has well and truly kicked off. Yummy.

For more of the same, check out this guy who ate 124 kebabs in 31 days and did not enjoy the experience. What did he expect?
