7) If They Win What Will They Change
If Scotland did tear itself away from our English bosom what changes would it want to make? Among it’s policy changes would be the following:
- Thirty hours of childcare per week in term time for all three and four-year-olds, as well as vulnerable two-year-olds.
- Housing benefit reforms, described by critics as the “bedroom tax”, to be abolished, and a halt to the rollout of Universal Credit.
- Basic rate tax allowances and tax credits to rise at least in line with inflation.
- A “triple-locked” pension system designed to guarantee income keeps pace with the cost of living.
- Minimum wage to “rise alongside the cost of living”.
They all sound fair enough I guess?
8) Will Great Britain Still Be Great?
Whether Great Britain is great or not at the moment is another question, but Britain will still be Britain, and we’re technically the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland any way. Personally I think it would be good if we dropped the “Great” bit. It’s a bit showy isn’t it? Maybe Scotland will change their name to “Amazing Scotland” by Deed Poll just to take the Mick.
