GTA VI is the most anticipated video game since the last GTA game which came out a whole 10 years ago, and now finally we have some clarity as to when we could see it drop for PS5, Xbox and PC.
Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick spoke to CNBC about the state of the video game market post-lockdown, describing it as ‘a little tougher than expected’. He’s confident that things are set to boom in the near future though, and that can only be due to one thing if you read between the lines of his quote below:
The long-term outlook for the industry is exceedingly positive.
We leave the announcement of our upcoming titles to our labels and we have said we have a very robust pipeline of titles and we have a great outlook for fiscal 2025 where we’ve reiterated our belief that we’ll generate about $8 billion in net bookings and over $1 billion in adjusted operating cash flow.
So, pretty exciting time but we haven’t spoken about the specific release schedule but we have titles coming from all of our labels.
Trust us when we say this is exciting news, because fiscal 2025 suggests the game will be released between 1 April, 2024 and 31 March, 2025. The reason Zelnick is so confident that the game will generate billions for them is due to the success of GTA V, which was released way back in 2013 and has thus far grossed $7.7 billion (£5.5bn), which makes it the most financially successful media product of all time.
GTA V was so ahead of its time when it dropped, that it’s exciting to think how great GTA VI will be. An official GTA VI trailer must be imminent given that release window, and I would expect it no later than March 2024 since Rockstar usually release trailers a year before the game is released.
Strauss added:
I think that’s a challenge that the folks at Rockstar face every time there’s a new iteration of Grand Theft Auto.
It needs to be something you’ve never seen before on the one hand, and it needs to reflect the feeling that we have about Grand Theft Auto. That’s a big challenge for the team.
Now, Rockstar’s answer is just seek perfection; seek nothing short of perfection, and we’ll get there.
The GTA 6 map was leaked earlier this year, and it looks absolutely massive:
