I know that GTA 6 release date rumours, trailer rumours, and even official announcement rumours have been doing the rounds for years now, but we now finally have a reputable report via Bloomberg that the game will be announced ‘as early as this week’, with the trailer arriving next month to celebrate Rockstar Games’s 25th anniversary.
The timing does make sense, and follows another clue from Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick who said in August that the company has ‘a great outlook for fiscal 2025’, projecting ‘$8 billion in net bookings and over $1 billion in adjusted operating cash flow.’
Fiscal 2025 suggests the game will be released between 1 April, 2024 and 31 March, 2025. The reason Zelnick is so confident that the game will generate billions for them is due to the success of GTA V, which was released way back in 2013 and has thus far grossed $7.7 billion (£5.5bn), which makes it the most financially successful media product of all time, and the second-best selling video game of all time, behind Minecraft (which has the advantage of also being playable on phones.)
GTA V was so ahead of its time when it dropped, that it’s exciting to think how great GTA VI will be. The rumoured GTA VI map was leaked earlier this year, and looks absolutely massive:
Here it is in comparison to the GTA V map:
The rumoured GTA VI side mission list also found its way online, and sounds like classic GTA hijinks:
So we’ll have to wait and see whether Bloomberg’s report comes true, or whether this is just another in a long line of erroneous reports on the most anticipated game of all time. Given the source, I’ve got a good feeling about it.
