It’s absolutely unbelievable that anyone would sell a pint of beer for 6p at the moment because they usually cost more like 100 times that much these days, but Greene King Local Pubs/Restaurants are doing that today to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

The idea is that they’re celebrating by offering pints for the same price as they were back in 1952 when the Queen first took to the throne. You need to use a secret codeword when you order the beer – just say ‘1952’ – to your bartender and then you’ll receive the cheapest pint of beer that you’ll probably ever buy.

Here’s what managing director Andrew Gallagher had to say about the promotion:

The Platinum Jubilee is a fantastic way for the UK to come together and celebrate our Queen and country, so we wanted to take our customers back to where it all began – 1952, a time when Vera Lynn ruled the charts and pints were only 6p.

Some of our regulars may even remember watching the coronation back in 1952, although they may have been too young to enjoy a pint then.

We can’t wait to see our customers enjoy this royally good deal on Monday 30 May, and look forward to celebrating the Platinum Jubilee in all our pubs across the bank holiday weekend.

It sounds almost too good to the true doesn’t it and to be honest it is: you’re only allowed one pint per person so can’t rock up there as soon as it opens and spend about a pound on getting absolutely licked all day. The offer is also limited to Greene King’s own IPA which is probably OK but might put some people off – I’ve never had it so can’t really comment.

Either way it’s probably worth checking out because even if it’s rank because it’s just 6p and that’s probably never going to happen again in your life. Gotta be done.

For more of the same, check out when the Queen’s Guard got busted for running a cocaine racket last week. Not the best preparation for the jubilee.
