You might have read earlier today that Greene King pubs were giving away pints of their IPA for 6p each today to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, but sadly it’s come to light that licensing laws are preventing the chain from doing that.

For once though, there’s actually a solution coming from Greene King that benefits the customers: they’re instead going to give away the pints for free. Here’s what a Greene King spokesperson had to say about the development:
One of the ideas we had was for a promotion in 400 of our managed pubs where customers could buy one pint each of Greene King IPA for 6p today [Monday 30 May] – the same price it was in 1952.
We thought this was a great way to celebrate this remarkable occasion and we’ve been thrilled at the response from customers.
However, we have some good news for everyone, which is that we will now be giving the Jubilee first pint of Greene King IPA away free of charge today, as we now understand it’s not permissible under the licensing act to charge the 6p.
Just remember to use the keyword ‘1952’ and check whether your local pub is running the offer.
What a turnup for the books. It still kinda sucks that you can only get one pint on the offer, but nobody is gonna be too upset about getting free stuff so I imagine that most Greene King pubs are going to be absolutely packed.
For more of the same, check out this guy drink 6 beers in 6 minutes then projectile vomit over his mate. Could be you tonight.
