Valentine’s Day can be a pretty depressing time of year if you’ve just broken up with your significant other, but Goodwill are trying to help that demographic out by encouraging the recently dumped to donate boxes of their ex’s stuff this Valentine’s Day instead of wallowing around staring at it in self pity.

Kelly Davis Strausbaugh, marketing and public relations coordinator for Goodwill Manasota, Florida had the following to say about the campaign:

We’re telling people they can turn the hate into donate and they’ll feel great in the process.

Instead of throwing items away, they can donate to Goodwill and help turn them into jobs.

We don’t like break-ups but this is a way to make it a little more fun and tongue-in-cheek.

To be fair, it is a pretty good idea. If you’ve still got loads of your ex’s stuff in your house then you’re gonna get pretty down every time you see it, but the thought of throwing it out and the fact that it’s all over might be too much to take.

Now you’ve got a reason to throw it out – and it’s for a good cause – then you might just do it and feel better about yourself in the process too. It’s also a great way to kickstart the healing process.

The drive is only officially happening at the Goodwill chapters in Sarasota and Southern Nevada, but I’m sure if you live near one then they wouldn’t be adverse to receiving some of your ex’s crap. I’m pretty sure there aren’t even any Goodwill stores in the UK but just go give it to your local charity store. It’ll make you feel better.

Failing that, choose one of these 6 Valentine’s Day gifts to wind up your ex instead. Guaranteed to make you feel better.
