Another day, another development in the weird golliwog story centred around the display of the controversial dolls at The White Hart in Grays, Essex.

We discovered yesterday that the pub had been vandalised and graffitied over the weekend with several windows and doors smashed in. However as predicted yesterday too, this has only doubled down landlady Benice Ryley’s desire to keep the golli dolls displayed in her pub, with her saying the following:

I’ve had a lot of support from friends since the attack, they have been wonderful.

I’m not going to go into what I think about those who vandalised my pub but let’s just say I’ve got mixed feelings and I’m not pleased by their actions.

But my position on the golliwogs has not changed.

It is unreal – we haven’t broken the law and there is no legal stuff that says I can’t display them.

It’s just silly.

Lol what? Why would anyone have ‘mixed feelings’ about someone smashing up their pub, even if they’re saying they’re ‘not best pleased about it’. Seems like a bit of a weird reaction doesn’t it?

Anyway, despite that being a pretty strange statement I don’t really blame Ryley for doubling down on her stance on the matter because if she wasn’t going to back down to the police then it’s doubtful she’s going to stop displaying them after someone smashed up her pub. Violence is never the answer and it’s only ever going to make things worse, so sadly it’s just going to make a positive solution to the issue even harder to reach. So it goes.

For more of the same, check out this cafe owner in Norwich being forced to justify why he sells Golliwogs. Probably correct to do so as well.
