The World Cup may be underway but non-league football is still as crazy as ever, with Warrington Town keeper Tony Thompson sent off in the 61st minute of his side’s FA Trophy clash against Guiseley on Saturday after confronting a fan who p*ssed in his water bottle.
After taking a sip from his contaminated drink, Thompson realised what had happened and squirted the ‘water’ in the face of the fan who had peed in it. A reasonable reaction – all things considered – but the ref still showed him a red card. Thompson Tweeted this message out afterwards:
Can’t argue with that really – it’s a completely stupid and disgusting thing to do. What makes it even worse is that following Thompson’s sending off, Guiseley scored a last-minute goal to end the game 1-0. Drinking an opposition fan’s urine, being sent off, and knocked out of the FA Trophy? Weekends don’t get much worse than that, surely.
What I don’t get is how no one warned him before he took that fateful sip of urine? I know it all happened in front of rival fans but still, you’d think someone would be decent enough to let a man know he’s about to inadvertently golden shower himself. Wee need to flush this behaviour out of the game asap.
