When Luke Littler first exploded onto the scene a little over a year ago, everyone immediately started joking about how he looks like a 35-year-old man with two kids and a mortgage rather than a teenager who’s unbelievably good at darts.
Well, GMB presenter Adil Ray has now cracked this same joke in January 2025 as if he’s the first person to ever think of it, and decided to throw in a bit of fat-shaming for good measure by promising to bring Luke Littler a salad:
‘If I were his mum and dad, I mean, he’s sort of – look at him. He’s admitted he has pizzas before a match and sits there playing computer games. I just think I’m a bit worried.’
‘Just before the final, I’ve brought a nice little salad for you from Pret.’
Now obviously this isn’t that big a deal and you’d think we could all listen to Adil Ray’s crap jokes and move on with our lives. But of course the internet being what it is, the hardcore Luke Littler fans/perpetually outraged social media types came out in their droves to demand that Ofcom investigate Adil Ray for fat-shaming the 17-year-old darts prodigy.
@JMDonnell91 said on X: ‘Disgusted with Adil Ray fat shaming a 17 year old on #gmb this morning!’ While @ColHTAFC agreed, adding: ‘Thought the same, embarrassing’.
‘Adil Ray just casually fat shaming a 17 year old kid on Good Morning Britain, should he ashamed’, @lucasesmart wrote.
@Lezlitinkz tweeted: ‘@GMB please ditch that Adil Ray! I hope he makes a public apology to Luke Littler after making derogatory comments about him’.
Elsewhere, fans called for Ofcom to look into the matter: ‘Really, Fat shaming live on morning TV. @Ofcom should investigate this shocking behaviour.’ @justjackuk said.
@Elizabet9Queen9 added: ‘Wow Adil Ray body-shaming like littler on live TV, call to Ofcom needed’.
Jeez, people really need to stop being so sensitive, don’t they? I mean, I get that it really isn’t necessary to discuss someone’s weight on live TV, but then again darts players are theoretically considered athletes so maybe this sort of thing is considered technical information? Which obviously isn’t what Adil Ray was going for, but he could use that as an excuse if Ofcom come knocking on his door (or ring him up or whatever).
At the same time, all the most successful darts players have massive bellies (I just made that up but it sounds like it’s probably true), so why would Luke Littler think about going on a diet at this stage of his career? Regularly eating pizzas, kebabs, cakes, and playing video games has probably been as beneficial to his darts career as practicing daily on a darts board.
Besides, if Adil Ray wants to be concerned about other people’s weight, why doesn’t he pick on someone like Gemma Collins or Johnny Vegas or something? Leave the young lad out of it. Pay him no mind, Luke Littler! Stuff your face to your heart’s content!
