With Oasis finally confirming their comeback tour around the UK & Ireland, it’s inevitable that not everyone will get to see the brothers live on stage given how ridiculously huge the demand for tickets will be when they go on sale this Saturday (August 31).
And so, hardcore Oasis fans who supported the band through the Britpop explosion of the 90s are not happy about the idea of a bunch of Gen Z’ers snatching up the tickets before they can.
Indeed, an inter-generational beef has exploded on social media since the Oasis reunion tour was announced, with Gen X fans wanting to relive the Oasis glory days without a bunch of teens/under 25’s ruining the experience for them:
Wincing at all the under 25’s jumping on the Oasis bandwagon. If you didn’t live through it the first time you’ve got to sit this one out for the dads and the aging indie kids. Sorry I don’t make the rules.

There needs to be a solid selling structure on these #Oasis tickets & by that I mean Gen Z are banned from buying them.

Me trying to get on Ticketmaster on at 9am on Saturday only to find millenials/Gen-Z/Tik-Tokers have taken all the Oasis tickets and touts are listing them at 5 grand each. pic.twitter.com/NnuJDGz7Lg

Imagine waiting 15 years for Oasis to reform only to lose out on tickets to Chloe, 21 from Stockport who just wants to hear Wonderwall live. #oasisreunion

You can really sense the fear in these Tweets from Gen X Oasis fans. Naturally, Gen Z is hitting back and defending their right to purchase tickets to the Oasis reunion tour ahead of older fans:
Imagine Chloe from Stockport knowing the lyrics to every song but never having had the opportunity to see Oasis live last time round. apparently less deserving than you, securing tickets over you!! You never been to see a band that were big when you weren’t old enough

Why are you gatekeeping Oasis LMAO

Mad considering the brothers were born in burnage just down the road from Stockport. Also it’s first come first served init. They aren’t gonna wait around just for you

First come, first served, indeed! Even if you’ve already been waiting around for this moment for 15 years. Unfortunately for Gen X, the truth is that the younger crowd are more tech savvy and have faster reflexes and reaction time. When the tickets go on sale online this weekend, they’ll hit ‘add to cart’ and ‘confirm purchase’ before Gen X is even done refreshing the page. What then? Another 15 year wait, where an even younger generation will manage to snap up all the tickets?
Look, we all know how annoying Gen Z can be, but I think any reasonable person would have to side with the youngsters here. One of the great things about this Oasis reunion is that the newer generation who genuinely love the band will be able to experience the magic live, even if that’s at the expense of a 40-year-old man missing out, despite being there when the Gallaghers were at their peak.
After all, most of us were under 25 listening to Oasis the first time around, weren’t we?
