THE DEATH OF JIMMY MUBENGA
Jimmy Mubenga, a 46 year old asylum seeker was being escorted out of the country by G4S security workers. He lost consciousness and died, presumably because of the restraining positions he was put into. Although there was not enough evidence to convict the G4S workers themselves, witnesses on the flight reported that they’d heard Mr Mubenga saying he couldn’t breath and that the G4S workers had ignored his pleas.
Other whistle blowers from inside G4S had warned that staff were routinely trained in potentially lethal force, but were not trained in pretty much anything else. That’s what seems to come up time and time again whilst researching this company: staff are ill prepared for their jobs and background checks are limited.
