I always find it fascinating when people tell me that ‘Avatar’ is the highest grossing movie of all time because literally nobody ever talks about it and I’m not sure if that many people I know have even seen it? It seems like such a cultural anomaly for something that was so massive at the time that doesn’t seem to have retained any even slight relevance?

Certainly nobody has ever spoken to me about how they’ve been waiting for the upcoming plethora of ‘Avatar’ sequels that will dominate the moviegoing landscape for the next decade. The first of these is of course ‘Avatar: The Way Of Water’ which is due to hit cinema screens on December 16th and has just dropped the actual real first trailer for it.
Can this get me even vaguely excited for the sequel to the highest grossing movie of all time?
Set more than a decade after the events of the first film, “Avatar: The Way of Water” begins to tell the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri, and their kids), the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure.
Lol well if you watched that then I assume that you’ve probably had the same reaction as me and the answer is an emphatic ‘NO’. Literally doesn’t give me any idea what the movie is about at all except some vague notion about ‘The Way Of Water’ and a whole load of battles with characters that we’ve never met before and whose motivations we have absolutely no clue about. But what about those computer graphics? Looks really good hey!
Yeah, I’m probably not going to go and see it, but I’m sure it’ll end up being the highest grossing movie of all time by this time next year. And then it’s only another two years until ‘Avatar 3’. What a decade it’s going to be.
