More fantastic headlines for the Qatari royals ahead of the 2022 World Cup – a former Qatari princess has been found dead at her home in Marbella amid a dramatic custody battle with her ex-husband.
Kasia Gallanio was the 45-year-old ex-wife of 73-year-old Abzerlaziz bin Khalifa Al-Thani, the uncle of the Emir of Qatar. They were embroiled in a decade-long custody battle over their three daughters in which she accused him of molesting one of the girls, whereas he accused her of being an alcoholic with mental health issues.
Kasia was discovered dead at her home in southern Spain on Sunday morning, with initial evidence pointing towards a potential drug overdose, according to French newspaper Le Parisien.
According to the same paper, one of the daughters filed a complaint in April this year in which she accused her father of forcing her to sleep in his bed and touching her chest and buttocks between the ages of 9 and 15. Obviously Al-Thani, a former Qatari oil minister and finance minister whose father ruled the Gulf state for 23 years, is untouchable so nothing ever came of that despite an ‘investigation’ being launched.
Kasia had given an interview to to Women’s World TV back in April, saying:
‘It’s time to speak up. It’s time to let people know that it’s not all glamour and perfect.
I do also struggle and I go through things, and it’s been difficult. Not just for me but for the children.’
Sure, it’s entirely possible that Kasia Gallanio did die of an overdose given the stress it sounds like she was under, but we all know how these oil-rich royals roll and so it’s hard not to suspect foul play, given the circumstances. Even if that’s the case though, what difference does it make? It’s not like anyone can do anything about it. Questions will be asked but things will carry on as normal because no one wants problems with the richest and most powerful people in the Middle East.
