Bit of a confusing headline from The Chronicle Live this week as former Geordie Shore star Scotty T has been busted driving while ‘three times over the cocaine limit’. Surely the cocaine limit is 0? In which case 3 x 0 = 0, meaning Scotty T is actually innocent?
Well, it actually turns out that there is a minimum limit when it comes to drug driving in the UK. Straight from gov.uk:
Wow, you learn something new every day. Now obviously it’s a bit more complex than that, as if you did cocaine yesterday and were caught with trace amounts in your blood, that doesn’t count as drug driving or driving under the influence.
Unfortunately for Scotty T from Geordie Shore, he was 3x over the limit when pulled over while behind the wheel of his Land Rover Discovery in Kenton, Newcastle. The 36-year-old provided a blood sample which tested positive for cocaine and Benzoylecgonine, a breakdown product of cocaine (also on the list above).
Scotty T appeared in Newcastle’s magistrate court this week where he pleaded guilty to two counts of driving with a controlled drug above the specified limit. Prosecutors confirmed Scotty had 32 microgrammes of cocaine per litre of blood in his system and 800 microgrammes of BZE per litre of blood. So 3x above the cocaine limit, and way, way above the Benzoylecgonine limit (50mg/L).
In the end, Scotty was fined £330 + £85 costs and was banned from the roads for 12 months.
Scotty T starred in Geordie Shore between 2012 – 2018, where he was arguably the most entertaining and popular personality on the show. He also won Celebrity Big Brother in 2016, before being declared bankrupt with debt of £147,000 in 2019. Reckon that cocaine habit had anything to do with it?
Here’s hoping Scotty can sort things out now that he’s been banned from the roads and shamed on the internet over it. If he does want to have a little treat in future, just keep it under 10mg/L I suppose. Everything in moderation.
